During his speech at HealthCare Week Luxembourg on October 7, 2025, the Minister of Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism, Lex Delles, announced that over the past five years, Luxembourg’s healthtech sector has created more than 600 jobs, bringing the total to 2,500 jobs across 130 companies.
This result comes from the 2025 mapping exercise of healthtech ecosystem companies, carried out jointly by Luxinnovation’s Market Intelligence team, healthtech sector experts from Luxinnovation, and the Ministry of Economy. It reflects the sector’s strong dynamism at the national level.
The mapping shows that 36% of healthtech companies in Luxembourg were founded within the last 10 years, and 72% employ fewer than 10 people. “These characteristics, typical of a young ecosystem, represent a growth opportunity, particularly through digitalization,” said Minister Delles. Indeed, 50% of these companies now have a digital focus, compared to only 28% in 2020, the date of the previous census.
One-third (32%) of companies operate in the medical devices sector, developing, producing, and marketing regulated health technologies, including medical software used for diagnosis or treatment. Another third (31%) focus on non-regulated health software without medical purposes. The remainder includes companies active in drug and health product distribution (19%), biopharma (13%), in vitro diagnostics (2%), and medical analysis (2%).
The mapping also reveals that 86% of listed healthtech companies target exclusively the human health market, while the remaining 14%, originally active in other markets, are now diversifying toward human health as a new growth opportunity. 35% of the companies are startups and scale-ups, one-third of which have participated in the Fit 4 Start program.
“Building on this 2025 healthtech sector review, Luxembourg aims to continue its ambition to become a leading European hub for the development, evaluation, and adoption of digital health technologies in the European market,” concluded Minister Lex Delles.
Geographically, healthtech companies are concentrated mainly in Luxembourg and Esch-sur-Alzette, confirming the growing attractiveness of Belval’s Science City and Technoport, as well as the House of BioHealth, near which the SüdSpidol hospital and future HE:AL Campus will be located.
