Struggling to open a corporate bank account? ABBL's new desk can help

Opening a corporate bank account is one of the practical steps start-ups need to plan for when establishing their activities in Luxembourg. For most companies the process runs smoothly, though some may need extra guidance on documentation requirements or the steps involved, particularly when setting up for the first time in a new market.

To make this step easier to navigate, the Luxembourg Bankers' Association (ABBL) has launched a dedicated Business Support Desk. Start-ups, SMEs and newly incorporated companies can submit their situation through a structured request form. The ABBL then helps applicants understand what documentation is needed, points them towards ABBL member banks offering corporate accounts and, where appropriate, liaises with the bank to clarify the status of an application.

“Through this new Business Support Desk, the ABBL aims to make the account-opening process more transparent, easier to navigate and better understood, while fully respecting each bank’s regulatory obligations and commercial autonomy,” says Sandrine Roux, Secretary General, ABBL.

The service is free of charge and all exchanges are treated as strictly confidential. It builds on the ABBL's broader, ongoing work with the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) and member banks to support a transparent and business-friendly environment for companies setting up in Luxembourg. Alongside the desk, the ABBL has also published practical guides for non-profit organisations and commercial businesses, as well as specialised banking contact lists for alternative investment funds, FinTechs and SMEs. It is also preparing further guidance for trusts, investment funds and co-ownership syndicates.

For start-ups weighing Luxembourg as a base for their activities, this initiative adds another concrete resource to help them prepare with confidence from day one.
