OQ Technology delivers Europe’s first space emergency alert
A landmark in secure public safety communications and European spectrum leadership.
OQ Technology
A landmark for public safety and European leadership in connectivity
OQ Technology, a European pioneer in satellite-to-smartphone connectivity, has reached a major milestone. Using its Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, the company successfully sent Europe’s first emergency broadcast message directly to regular smartphones, without any special hardware or software.
This achievement makes OQ Technology the first European operator to prove that emergency alerts can be delivered straight from space to mobile phones. It positions the company as a leader in secure and reliable communications for public safety and disaster response.
Demonstrating the future emergency connectivity
The live demonstration in Luxembourg showed how OQ’s satellite network can send emergency messages directly to unmodified smartphones, both iPhone and Android. This ensures people stay connected even when ground networks fail, are overloaded, or face cyberattacks. Such capability is crucial for public warning systems and disaster recovery, providing a backup communication layer when traditional networks are down.
This achievement marks a turning point for Europe’s sovereign space capabilities. With our 60 MHz of high-priority MSS S-band spectrum and in-orbit infrastructure, OQ is building the foundation for a resilient and secure European direct-to-device service that connects people everywhere. With this milestone, we’ve proven that emergency broadcast messages can reach ordinary smartphones from space - anytime and anywhere.

Driving European innovation and global standards
As a European-based operator, OQ Technology is helping shape international standards for satellite-to-smartphone communication. By working with global bodies like 3GPP, the company ensures its technology works seamlessly with existing mobile networks and devices. This approach supports global interoperability and makes adoption easier and more affordable.
OQ’s progress strengthens Europe’s position in the growing direct-to-device market, combining regulated spectrum, satellite infrastructure, and standardized technology to deliver secure and future-proof connectivity.
Why OQ Technology stands out
