The capital increase is aimed at developing new product features and expanding into the European market
The RegTech startup Mopso, active in the fight against money laundering and the prevention of financial crimes, has closed a €1 million seed round.
The capital increase was subscribed by Apside, a joint venture by Intesa Sanpaolo and Zest S.p.A., by Fin+Tech, the program of the National Network of Accelerators of CDP Venture Capital dedicated to fintech and insurtech with a follow-on investment and an additional investment from Centro Istruttorie, a company part of Moltiply Group. The round also saw the participation of several business angels.
"The quality and weight of the investors confirm the value of our project. We are already working to create the right commercial and industrial synergies, we hope to strengthen our research and development activities with the support of strategic partners. With the Moltiply Group ecosystem, we already see multiple areas for concrete collaboration", said Andrea Danielli, CEO of Mopso.
Mopso was founded in Milan in 2021 to offer banks and financial institutions a modular software platform for money laundering prevention. Mopso’s products leverage the semantic web and digital identity to simplify compliance processes. Specifically, Brain software identifies suspicious transactions and high-risk customers by integrating millions of internal data from enriched sources, along with datasets and Open-Source Intelligence, while its algorithms conduct risk profile searches and network connection analysis. Amlet makes due diligence data "portable" and reusable within an ecosystem of intermediaries after translating it into verifiable credentials. The onboarding procedures are simplified and prepared for the adoption of the European Digital Identity wallet.
"Investing in RegTech solutions for anti-money laundering, such as the one developed by Mopso, means supporting a safer and more efficient financial market, improving regulatory compliance. With increasingly stringent regulations, advanced technologies are essential to protect financial institutions and strengthen trust in the system. We believe that innovation in this field is a strategic opportunity for the future of the sector", said Gabriele Ronchini, CEO of Zest Investments and Vice President of Apside's Investment Committee.
Following a strong domestic market validation in its initial years of operation, and after being selected by Italy’s prestigious Fin+Tech Private/Public Venture Accelerator, the company strategically extended its presence to Luxembourg—one of Europe’s leading financial hubs. Mopso secured a place in the country’s premier national accelerator, FIT4Start, under the High-Performance Computing (HPC) category, marking a pivotal step in its growth journey.
Over the course of six months, Mopso actively engaged with key players in Luxembourg’s financial ecosystem, leading to its incubation at the Luxembourg House of Financial Technology (LHoFT). The company further strengthened its involvement in the local fintech sector, gaining recognition from the Association des Compagnies d’Assurances et de Réassurances (ACA), Luxembourg’s professional association of insurers and reinsurers. As a testament to its innovative approach, Mopso was selected as a finalist in the 2024 ACA Innovation Awards, highlighting its contribution to the domestic market.
A major milestone in Mopso’s expansion efforts came in November 2024 when the company received a significant grant from Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Economy and the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) under the Joint Call HPC (High-Performance Computing) program, in a call together with the LIST. This recognition underscored the confidence of Luxembourg’s key stakeholders in Mopso’s technology and will support the development of its groundbreaking project, PAMLA. Designed to revolutionize anti-money laundering (AML) practices in the financial sector, PAMLA will leverage advanced computing power, LIST’s competences in data analytics and Mopso’s technical expertise to enhance financial security and regulatory compliance.
With these strategic achievements, Mopso firmly established itself as a leading innovator in Luxembourg’s and the European fintech landscape, furthering its mission to drive technological advancements in financial services.
